After decades, a truly new microphone has emerged from Vienna. The OC818 is a microphone with rich heritage and is certainly in a class of its own. The OC818 is a large diaphragm, dual capsule condenser microphone with dual output. The CRK12 capsule is the next generation of Viennese engineering and features a gold-plated ceramic capsule. The tight tolerances of each capsule ensure consistent and flat frequency response. The capsule is housed in an acoustically isolated mount effectively giving the microphone an internal shock mount.
The accompanying Polar Designer VST is an open source plugin that allows engineers and producers to craft polar patterns after recording has occurred. There are 5 crossover bands allowing users to combine polar patterns across different frequency bands, much like a multi-band compressor. The OC818 can also be controlled via Bluetooth with the OCR8 dongle. This delivers the ability to switch polar patterns remotely from any iOs or Android device. The OC818 is quite simply a must have in any mic collection.
