One week in October saw UK digital mixing console manufacturer DiGiCo receive two awards for its new entry-level SD8 – Best Sound Product of the Year at the LDI Show in Las Vegas and Most Innovative Product in the Live Industry at SIEL, SATIS and Le RADIO, held in the French capital of Paris.
In Paris, RIk Hoerée and Laurent Laignel of DiGiCo’s French distributor, Apex France, were on hand to collect the Most Innovative Product in the Live Industry trophy.
“There are four categories in the awards – Live, Production, Post Production and Broadcast – and many manufacturers’ distributors entered products,” explains Jeroen Sierjacobs, Apex’s product marketing engineer. “In fact a total of 75 products were the subject of an intensive study by the jury, which consisted of experts from the professional audio-visual community.”
Competition was stiff, with 29 products chosen as finalists. The jury deliberated behind closed doors, taking into account the opinion of visitors to the show who had voted via Siel Satis le Radio’s website.
“The winners were judged on several categories: solving problems, proposing new solutions and technologies and improving the productivity,” continues Sierjacobs. “The SD8 clearly fulfilled the criteria and we were very proud to accept the award on DiGiCo’s behalf.”
Meanwhile, in Las Vegas, DiGiCo’s marketing director David Webster accepted the award for Best Sound Product of the Year at LDI.
“The SD8 has been designed with a fixed architecture and employs a smaller Super FPGA than the SD7, but it still benefits from all the major features and versatility of the D Series, as well as the advances already made in the SD7,” comments Webster.
“This gives a superlative performance to price ratio, which means we can offer an entry-level console, with remote pre amps, at a price point that has never been possible before. We feel this fulfils a real need within the market. The DiGiCo team is delighted to have this recognised with two such prestigious awards within such a short space of time.”
