To keep on the cutting edge of music these days is certainly a full time gig. Fusion styles and mashes of sub-genres are constantly evolving with waves of musical movements regularly washing over the music loving globe. Being at this side of the pond can keep us a little further away from the rising trends in their earliest stages and our modest population tends to see the newer genre’s take a little longer to be adopted into the mainstream. With all that considered though, one venue has always sat firmly at the edge of new music and that venue, is Roxanne Parlour.
Tucked away in one of Melbourne’s little side streets, just off Bourke St, Roxanne Parlour is one of those well kept secrets for those in the know. Hosting everything imaginable from comedy gigs to world class acts, the guys at Roxanne Parlour are down to earth, musically knowledgeable and constantly responsible for injecting the ‘next big sound’ into the Melbourne music scene. With a modestly retro vibe, the venue has a cosy atmosphere which very relaxed. No pretention here, whether it’s the burlesque decor or the humble drink prices, Roxanne Parlour is just, cool. Period.
There are two rooms to Roxanne Parlour as well as a VIP section and a small outdoor courtyard for the chimneys. Given the wide array of performances and musical styles that Roxanne Parlour caters for, the crew at Roxanne Parlour really wanted to have clean, clear audio focused to specific areas of the venue combined with excellent low frequency response. The venue has a low ceiling also which can sometimes prove a challenge but this proved no problem for the systems installed.
The main room was upgraded and their old system (Nexo Alpha-E) was moved into the back room and adding a new Nexo system to the front. The main room was installed with 6 x Nexo Geo S1210’s and 4 x RS15’s. To power the system, 2 x Camco Vortex 6 amplifiers were installed as well as 1 x NS 242ES4. The chaps at RTR productions in Melbourne supplied and service the system.
The venue had used Nexo from the day it opened, the team at Roxanne Parlour had always been supporters of Nexo and its ability to perform; and the choice was always going to be Nexo. The best upgrade solution for the main room was GEOS12 as it fit the criteria perfectly. It could deliver the pristine sound in a controlled manner. It’s great to see that the Parlour’s main room finally has the perfect system for its main room. The team there are extremely happy. “The sonic purity of the Vortex amps and the Geos12 is just amazing. It’s also very noticeable in the low end with the RS15 subs” – John Clayton (Roxanne Parlour’s in house engineer).
