Having a club along Surfers Paradise is a dream for many and a challenge for many more. With thousands of tourists flocking to Surfers year round, running a successful nightclub in one of Australia’s most popular cities along the Queensland coast is no small feat.
Vanity nightclub is such a place; an exciting venue that provides an impressive club habitat for club bunnies as well as a consistent flurry of national and international acts throughout the year. A recent gig by international headliner DJ Calvin Harris saw the Vanity crowd bring the house down with the help of some Nexo subs taking the bottom end to another level.
With such a guest, Vanity Club Operations Manager Bastian Fosterling liaised with assisting consultant Nathan Wright to establish how the sound of the room could be enhanced. Together they decided to hire additional boxes to improve the bass response of their house system. Queensland’s Twisted Pair Productions provided the kit as Nathan decided his needs could be met with Nexo subs. “The requirements were for a clean tight sound that went deep. Two Nexo RS-18’s along with the NXAMP 4×4 Amp were the perfect choice in this instance. The SPL was easily achieved and the clean tight sound in the room was amazing.”
With an act like Calvin Harris coming to town, the guys were anticipating a full house so space was also a consideration in their choice. “We were limited on the placement of the boxes but we wanted to place them on the dance floor. Only 2 boxes were used however 3 were brought in to stack the boxes a little higher so they wouldn’t get used as dance podiums”. (Good thinking 99!)
With the subs set to stun and everything in place, it all came down to what Calvin could pump through the system. Of course, the night was a blast with a full house of punters going off as Calvin Harris worked the crowd into a complete frenzy.
Nathan was extremely pleased with the sound and performance of the subs. “The punch coming from the subs felt like we were at a festival. It was so deep and clean, I have never heard anything like it!”
Bastian was also a big fan and is now considering a more permanent setup with a Nexo system for the club. “Wow…What a sound. Our system was capable of handling mids and tops but we would have blown drivers and amps trying to get the system so punchy in the bass region. We were blown away by the sound of the RS-18’s. It was a great decision to use them and the place has never sounded so good. The placement of the subs also allowed for the average person in the place to enjoy the music. We are looking at buying the setup.”
