2020 saw NEXO add two new components to their immersive audio oriented ‘Inspace Definition’ series of loudspeakers: the super-compact ID14 and accompanying IDS108 subwoofer. Now in 2021 the French manufacturer is adding even further to their world-leading architectural sound series, taking the form of supercharged column speaker systems. The ID84 loudspeakers and dedicated IDS312 column sub components take the column speaker concept to new heights, expanding its role beyond traditional voice reproduction into powerful, high-quality music applications and beyond.
The ID84 is a performance loudspeaker system brimming with technical innovations, including a proprietary HF dispersal system, and an exceptional Max SPL output of 135dB. With its smooth sonic signature, the ID84 stands apart from other column speakers, excelling at speech and music reinforcement alike, with the ability to perform as part of a Front of House reinforcement system where needed.
The system’s lean, metre-high cabinet weighs in at just 15kg, featuring 8 x 4inch drivers and an array of dome tweeters. These components are integrated into a curved baffle within a light-weight aluminium cabinet with a rigid steel spine. A comprehensive range of accessories and multiple rigging options make the ID84 easy to deploy in a wide scope of fixed and mobile applications- including public spaces, houses of worship, transport hubs, theatres, and sports venues.
The unique directivity switch on the rear panel enables instant switching of vertical HF dispersion, and cabinets can be linked ‘end-to-end’ to create longer columns. Because the HF arrangement is located at one end of the ID84 column, inverting the second cabinet enables all the HF to be kept in the middle of the 2-metre line, ensuring perfect coupling. The ID84’s switchable dispersion offers two vertical directivities, ‘Wide Mode’ is calibrated for a +0°/-25° configuration and ‘Narrow Mode’ is calibrated for a +0°/-10° configuration. Horizontal coverage remains constant at 100°.
Two companion products, a low-frequency extension module (ID84L) and a partner sub bass system (IDS312) can be connected to the ID84, providing an innovative scalable solution for acoustically challenging architectures. Touring versions of the ID84, ID84L and IDS312 feature Magnelis steel grilles and utilize a Speakon connector. The Installation versions use an acoustic cloth over the front of the grille and feature a cable gland with a 2-core cable for audio input- ensuring an IP54 rating for outdoor use. An additional version of the range, known as ‘TIS’, features the Speakon connectivity of the Touring version with the cloth covered grille of the installation version. All versions of the ID84, ID84L and IDS312 are available in custom RAL colours.
The IDS312 companion sub system features 3 x 12″ woofers, extending LF response down to 40Hz. A dedicated system for mounting and connecting an ID84 cabinet on top of the IDS312 allows the user to build a slender full range system- making it ideal for bringing the ID84 up to audience height.
Setting new standards in visual design, ease of installation and versatility of deployment, NEXO have once again succeeded in elevating an industry standard component into a cutting edge, comprehensive solution. Sharing the same sonic signature as the rest of the ID Series, ID84 systems can also be combined with other cabinets such as the ID24 or ID14 to create exceptional immersive audio experiences.
