Austrian Audio Add To The Hi-X Headphone Series With New Hi-X60

Adding to Austrian Audio’s highly successful Hi-X headphone range comes the Hi-X60, a professional closed-back system for recording, mixing and mastering.

With the natural and precise sonic signature of the Hi-X6 series, the Hi-X60’s over-ear design is ideal for use in loud environments or for when isolation of bleed needs to be kept to a minimum. Manufactured in Vienna, the Hi-X60 incorporates Austrian Audio’s state-of-the-art High-Excursion driver technology, developed through decades of experience in pro audio research and development.

By keeping all moving mass to a minimum, the Hi-X60 offers extremely fast transient response capabilities and a linear frequency response. The 44mm Hi-X driver, with its impressive sonic characteristics, is able to reveal every sonic shade and timbre, offering distortion-free sound down to the lowest reproducible frequencies. These design characteristics mean that important workflow decisions can be made with confidence in the precision and translation to other audio reproduction systems.

The isolation of the closed over-ear design in combination with the high-excursion driver ensures extremely clear sound production, revealing every detail and nuance. Despite being closed-back headphones, the Hi-X60’s open listening field has been designed to resemble a sonic image similar to open-back headphones. This is achieved in part by the newly redesigned ear cups, which are spacious inside whilst having relatively small external dimensions. The soft memory foam is an update of older designs, with the acoustic wall that closes off the earcup doubled, ensuring as little sound as possible can escape into the environment or enter the internal soundstage from outside.

Like other systems in the Hi-X range, the memory foam padding of the headband reduces contact pressure to the head via a cut-out middle seam, ensuring an optimal fit, and enabling a fatigue-free workflow for time-intensive audio projects.

Modern audio work is often not tied to one location, with musicians, performers and engineers regularly working across different venues and equipment. Austrian Audio have designed the Hi-X60 system to ensure consistent sonic performance across a wide range of environments and outputs. From studio interfaces, analogue mixers, high-end headphone amplifiers and reference AD converters, to mobile players and laptops; the Hi-X60’s impedance of 25 ohms ensures that appropriate power is always available.

Additional adaptability comes in the form of easily exchangeable cable lengths. The Hi-X60 includes high-grade 1.2m and 3m cables, terminating in industry standard 3.5mm gold-plated stereo jack plugs. The 3.5mm configuration ensures compatibility with consumer device outputs, whilst a screw-on 6.3mm stereo adapter jack is also included for connecting the headphones to pro audio devices.

Designed to be as robust as possible, all load-bearing components on the Hi-X60 are metal, with the earpiece, ear pads and cable easily replaceable. The headphones feature a folding design and come with a high-quality protective carry bag.
