After bringing world-renowned Swiss precision to studio monitoring for 45 years, PSI Audio are now gearing up to open their doors to the public for a unique look at their production processes. On the 28th and 29th of October 2022, PSI Audio invite all those who are interested to take a look at how Swiss precision speakers are developed, built and calibrated.
PSI Audio has long held a reputation for outstanding audio fidelity among sound professionals around the world. In 1977, when Alain Roux founded what would later become PSI Audio, his goal was to build the best sound reproduction systems available to the public. In 1988, when Roux’s ‘Relec SA’ became a limited company, he had already established himself as a leader in the creation of outstanding speakers, manufacturing award-winning OEM products for renowned international brands. When Studer, one of the most prolific Swiss pro-audio brands (whose studio monitor range was developed and built by Relec SA from 1992 to 2003) was acquired by an international company and stopped selling speakers, Relec SA decided to continue the studio monitor range under a new brand name: PSI Audio.
Today, the brand stands for 100% analogue designs so meticulously crafted, that their sonic fidelity is entirely unrivalled. To reach this level of quality, PSI Audio keep as much of the manufacturing process in-house as possible. Unsatisfied with the performance of available parts, the manufacturer started developing and building its own drivers, magnetizing its own magnets, hand-soldering circuit boards and winding its own coils. Every piece is measured and matched to even out what minute tolerances the carefully crafted components may still possess. Every single product is meticulously measured, calibrated and approved in the company’s anechoic chamber- a process recorded on the individual measurement statistics provided with each purchase.
PSI Audio has developed several proprietary technologies to elevate the products to entirely new levels of fidelity and precision. Compensated Phase Response (CPR) flawlessly time-aligns the individual chassis with each speaker’s all-analogue circuitry- ensuring the entire spectrum is reproduced perfectly in phase. Adaptive Output Impedance (AOI) monitors and corrects membrane movement, effectively eliminating acoustic smearing from uncurbed inertia and Class G/H amplifiers deliver ample power at extremely low levels of noise and distortion.
While some manufacturers match pairs of speakers, PSI Audio matches parts on the component level, effectively eliminating design tolerances within the overall circuit. As a result, no ‘matched sets’ of PSI Audio speakers are required, as all PSI Audio speakers are perfectly matched. Their sonic structure is so consistent that speakers can even be combined across different models, making the manufacturer’s studio monitors particularly adept for professional surround and immersive mixing setups.
Celebrating 45 years of Swiss precision monitors, PSI Audio invites everyone to come and see the manufacturing process for themselves. On the 28th and 29th October 2022, the workshop and the listening room will open its doors to the public, allowing for a peak behind the curtain.
