Established in the 1930s, Stuttgart’s MHP Arena has been a cornerstone for Bundesliga, Germany’s top professional football league, since 1963. The Arena is renowned as the first regional stadium to host 1000 Bundesliga matches.

A stadium-wide renovation, which included cutting-edge AV infrastructure, was recently undertaken to guarantee Stuttgart’s future as a leading global sports destination. After rigorous assessments, RCF was chosen for its superior performance in serving the 61,000 seats and public areas.

Meeting UEFA and FIFA standards, the system has been highly praised since its debut. Featuring more than 400 speaker modules, each delivering over 1 megawatt of continuous power, the system also serves as the venue’s voice alarm system for enhanced safety protocols.

“The roof structure of the MHP Arena is based on ring-shaped and radial steel cables. Both the attachment and the dimensioning of the loudspeaker systems and their mounts were therefore subject to considerable restrictions. The use of standard rigging components was not possible” explains Wolfgang Huber from local integrator AVEO. “Despite this, the installation was worth the effort, we developed special components for rigging and our collaboration with the RCF ESG team made the integration much easier. The focus was on optimizing the weight of the overall system.”

Georg Hofmann of RCF Germany’s Engineering Support Group emphasized the importance of a system capable of handling extreme audio levels while ensuring speech clarity across the stadium: “The dual use of the system as a voice alarm plays a crucial role, as it aids in the efficient evacuation of the stadium during emergencies without the need to install a secondary audio system.”

The installation includes 187 x HL 40WP line array modules, 36 x HL 38-S subwoofers, 16 x HL2290/HL2260 horn speakers, 73 x P 4228W speaker modules, and 32 x Compact C45 systems. Powered by 66 x RCF XPS 16KD amplifiers, connected over a Dante network, the system boasts 264 channels- each with 4,000 Watts of continuous power.

Since its introduction, the new RCF system has consistently received positive evaluations, particularly for its expansive coverage and exceptional audio quality.
