A new firmware update brings enhanced functionality to RME interfaces by optimizing the existing 3-band parametric EQ (PEQ) within TotalMix FX. Behind the scenes, a powerful 9-band PEQ structure has been implemented using three 3-band PEQs, available for use on any output channel. While DSP resources are finite- each activated Room EQ reduces the number of remaining 3-band PEQs- the system offers ample capacity to meet a wide range of professional audio needs.
The system supports up to 20 Room EQ instances, allowing for processing on 20 mono output channels, 10 stereo channels, or any combination thereof. This capacity exceeds the requirements of a standard 16-channel surround configuration, offering ample flexibility for a wide range of professional setups. Additionally the Room EQ window includes a Delay function, adjustable from 0 ms up to 42 ms, in steps of 0.01 ms. Up to 20 of these delays can be activated, matching the number of 9-band PEQs.

The Room EQ window also offers Volume Calibration through level adjustment from +3 dB down to -24 dB. This functionality allows speakers to be configured effectively without the need to adjust individual output channel faders manually.
For headphone mixing, RME have also added the ADI-2 series’ Crossfeed function. Crossfeed offers five levels of intensity and can be activated on a maximum of three stereo outputs. By subtly reducing channel separation, it recreates the more natural spatial perception of loudspeaker listening, mitigating the overly wide imaging commonly experienced with headphones.
