Built on IEEE open standards, MILAN ensures seamless interoperability amongst devices of different manufacturers in a time-sensitive network (AVB/TSN). With a free firmware update, RME devices now join a growing number of products in the MILAN ecosystem.
The following RME devices are now Avnu MILAN-certified, ensuring seamless interoperability and enhanced performance:
- 12Mic
- AVB Tool
- M-32 Pro II AD and DA
- M-32 Pro AD and DA
- M-1610 Pro M-1620 Pro
Since joining the Avni Alliance in 2021, RME has steadily advanced its AVB capabilities to align with MILAN standards. This process included implementing core features such as the AAF stream format, CRF-based media clocking, and dynamic mapping support.

MILAN sets itself apart from other network audio systems through its foundation in AVB/TSN technology, which requires network switches to engage in precise time stamping, latency management, and stream tracking. Bandwidth is automatically allocated upon device connection, removing the need for manual switch configuration while ensuring uninterrupted audio fidelity- even alongside other network traffic. MILAN also leverages IEEE 1722.1 ATDECC, an open IEEE standard that allows users to control not just routing, but the full configuration of the audio device.
