The old Showroom at Crown has been given a $1 million facelift and makeover and has emerged this month as a dazzling new entertainment venue called The Palms at Crown.

Revamped and restyled, the multi-layered auditorium seats 900 and offers new cabaret-style tables at stage front, intimate crescent-shaped booths with banquet lounges for groups of up to 16, plus balcony tables for two. This is a stylish and modern version of the golden age of cabaret venues, expected to showcase a fantastic range of live entertainment in an atmosphere that is both intimate and exciting.
The room’s designer, being reluctant to lose valuable floor space, proposed a digital console with a smaller footprint to replace the venue’s existing Midas H1000. With this knowledge, Crown’s Technical staff swung into evaluation mode and subsequently an order was placed with Group Technologies for a DiGiCo D5 Live 112 EX.
“There is simply no better digital console on the market period” commented The Palms Technical Supervisor, Chris Rogers. “Paul Bailey (The Palm’s Audio Guru) and I looked at all the options on the market that met our criteria but when you compare the D5 with other consoles in this segment, there is no comparison. The quality of the audio path, the build quality of the console, and the ease of use, which is paramount in our venue, made the D5 a standout performer”.
Since re-opening in Mid July the comments from the audiences about the show’s audio have been extremely complimentary. “We are very pleased the console and with the support given by Peter and Mark from Group Technologies”.
