Festival Presidente de Musica Latina 2010 (aka the Presidente Festival of Latin Music) has completed its 7th successful year, entertaining 50,000 people in the Olimpic Stadium in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic.
One of the biggest events in the Caribbean, the 3-day epic is the most important for Spanish-speaking music fans, attracting leading Latin performers such as Wisin y Yandel, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Juan Luis Guerra, Don Omar, Sergio Vargas and Milly. All styles of music are celebrated including reggaeton from Puerto Rick, merengue from the Dominican republic, salsa, pop and other fusion styles.
Sponsored by the Cerveceria Presidente beer company, this year’s festival coincided with the celebration of Santo Domingo city as the American Capital of Culture. Puerto Rican producer Tony Mojena commissioned PA rental company JOL Sonido to provide sound systems.

With a 50,000-strong audience, the sound system was significant utilising 40x GEO D10’s as main PA hangs. A unique design was employed with 20x GEO S12’s used as a stereo centre. Additional GEO S12 arrays were used as out fill and side fill, and the whole system was powered by NEXO NXAMP4x4s running on an EtherSound network.
- 40x NEXO GEOD10 with 36 custom-made subs from JOL Sonido
- 20x NEXO GEOS12 as a Stereo center,(very strange but effective)
- 12x NEXO GEOS12 as out fill
- 12x NEXO GEOS12 as side fill
- 14x NEXO NXAMP 4×4 with EtherSound
- 4x NEXO NX242ES4
- 6x NEXO PS15 TDcontroller
- 16x NEXO PS15 R2
- 16x NEXO PS10 R2
Jaime Oliver Layle, sound crew chief, noted that, “I’m very happy with the performance of the system; it was the best solution both for coverage and sound quality. The GEO D is an amazing system, and the NEXO NXAMPs provide a great sound. The engineers that worked with the bands at FOH for the festival showed total approval and that was one of our goals for this show.”

“Having the support of the NEXO team is great for us. Roberto Tschopp, tech support for Latin America, spent a lot of time with us helping us to design and set up the system.”
Roberto and JOL Sonido engineers used NEXO’s NS-1 software to plot the system output accurately in advance – the image shows simulations of the front clusters, front and side fills, at 4kHz dBA.
