ART 9: Elevating Low End With RCF’s Bass Motion Control

Offering an unequalled value to performance ratio, RCF’s new ART 9 Series represents a stunning culmination of their most recent technological developments. Able to handle a veritable plethora of performance and event applications, the ART 9 Series forms one of the most dynamic workhorse systems available to the current pro audio market. Much of the ART 9’s improved performance comes thanks to innovations in low end reproduction, with RCF engineers taking a forward-thinking approach to transducer control.

With ART 9, RCF’s designers have discovered a way to avoid the use of high-pass filters, instead using an advanced woofer excursion management system. Speakers with BMC can reproduce the lowest audible frequencies without affecting woofer stability, allowing for extended linearity and exceptional sonic integrity.

Working in harmony with the ART 9’s newly refined crossover and phase linearization DSP modules, Bass Motion Control makes use of a complete map of the dynamic behaviour of the transducer, in tandem with a custom algorithm that only limits over-excursions. Perfectly calibrated for each model’s hardware makeup, BMC allows for total freedom of signal reproduction, avoiding the need for filters and broadband limiters.

In conventional DSP-based active loudspeaker designs, high-pass filters are used to prevent the woofer motion from becoming physically destructive. Whilst this method is effective at protecting the woofer from damage, the use of HPF results in altered phase behaviour. By avoiding use of these filters, BMC gives ART 9 loudspeakers the ability to reproduce input signals at all volume levels across the entire audible spectrum. The end result is characterised by a deep, detailed low end response.

With the addition of RCF’s newly developed True Resistive Waveguide (TRW) vented port designs, ART 9 systems are able to mimic a resonance-free, pure resistive load- leading to less distortion and a pristine sonic image. In combination with RCF’s FiRPHASE phase alignment technology, ART 9 systems achieve a level of DSP audio performance never before seen in active point-source loudspeakers.
