The maturation of wireless microphone systems has transformed the way in which sound is captured and transmitted throughout a range of professional environments. Audio integrators and consultants have increasingly turned to wireless, relying on their client-friendly design and a host of practical advantages, when satisfying project requirements. However, selecting wireless systems for projects can also come with disadvantages, particularly if said integrator has come to rely on the sonic capabilities of a trusted brand.
Viennese microphone manufacturer Austrian Audio, an emerging favourite of production houses and integrators nationwide, is taking the direct route to tackling this challenge, offering up wireless capsule versions of their high quality live vocal microphones for use with popular third party wireless systems [Shure Wireless is the first system to be supported].
The OD505WL1 and OC707WL1 are premium quality capsule heads offering the full capabilities of Austrian Audio’s OD505 and OC707 vocal microphones to handheld transmitter systems. Handmade in Vienna, the precision-manufactured capsules combine freedom of wireless operation with all the virtues that production houses and integrators have come to rely on: superior sound quality, excellent pop and feedback resistance, rugged construction, and the ability to handle extremely high SPLs.
OD505 WL1
The OD505 WL1 is ideal for meeting the needs of professionals and performers who depend on the sonic characteristics of Austrian Audio’s Open Acoustic Technology. The module’s Active Dynamic microphone capsule features a state-of-the-art dual inner capsule design, offering considerably higher fidelity than a traditional dynamic equivalent. Engineered to achieve superb signal quality, the OD505 WL1 excels at bringing out the strengths of any voice with minimal tweaks.
Featuring a supercardioid polar pattern for solid off-axis rejection of ambient sound and superior feedback reduction characteristics, the OD505 WL1 presents a step up in feature set when compared to many default wireless microphone capsules.
The OD505 WL1 also features a reduced susceptibility to pop noise due to Austrian Audio’s innovative new diffuser design. Better still, there is no major change in sound quality or feedback characteristics when performers grip directly onto the microphone head grille- a feature engineers will surely appreciate.
OC707 WL1
The OC7071 WL1 features many of the same design strengths as the OD505, but gains additional advantages through Austrian Audio’s True Condenser technology. The open, transparent, and powerful sound of the manufacturer’s lauded OC707 studio-quality condenser vocal microphone remain fully effective over radio connectivity, effectively making the OC707 W1 the most comprehensively-designed wireless vocal microphone capsule on the market.
Designed to help the human voice stand out in a live mix, the OC707 WL1 faithfully captures all facets of vocal performance without overemphasising them. At the heart of the OC707 WL1 is a state-of-the-art OCC7 inner capsule, Austrian Audio’s newly developed condenser system for small diaphragm microphones. The OCC7’s 3-micron-thick gold-coated polyethylene naphthalate diaphragm is much more robust than conventional Mylar alternatives, allowing it to withstand extremely high sound pressure levels whilst delivering an impressively linear frequency response.
Many clients now expect wireless microphone systems to be available during a wide range of applications, from corporate presentations, live music, theatre productions, conferences and public address. Austrian Audio’s solution ensures integrators and production houses can still rely on the manufacturer’s signature quality, whilst taking advantage of robust preexisting third party wireless systems.
