OD505: Active Dynamic Vocal Microphone
Austrian Audio’s new live all-rounder, the OD505 Active Dynamic vocal microphone is designed primarily for the stage. Featuring meticulous Viennese craftsmanship, and an uncompromisingly robust build, the OD505 combines all the advantages of a dynamic microphone with the tonal finesse of a condenser microphone.
With a sensitivity of 4.4 mV / Pa, the OD505 has almost the same sensitivity as a condenser system thanks to the microphone’s active circuitry design. The active front capsule requires 48V phantom power, enabling advantages such as a truly consistent output level, regardless of the length of connecting cables or internal resistance of the microphone preamplifier. The passive lower capsule is polarity-rotated, designed to detect and eliminate unwanted noise from the primary signal. Together with a selectable 2nd order high-pass filter, the OD505’s cutting edge dual-capsule design makes it fundamentally immune to noise such as bumps, stage knocks and handling.
Austrian Audio have also included another proprietary development in the OD505: The 3D Pop Noise Diffuser. This filter was specifically designed to reduce the impact of plosives on the OD505.
The OD505 features a focused supercardioid pattern, offering superb off-axis rejection for the elimination of ambient noise, and allowing for maximum gain before feedback. This makes the OD505 not only ideal for live performance and rehearsal, but also a very capable microphone for studio applications where separation between instruments is crucial. Podcasters and Broadcasters will also benefit from the advantages of increased speech intelligibility and minimised reflections.
Open Acoustics Technology
The OD505 features Austrian Audio’s new proprietary Open Acoustics Technology, allowing sound to enter the capsule almost entirely unimpeded from all sides. Contact points between the capsule and the enclosure are reduced to a minimum, leading to the reduction of sound-reflecting surfaces in proximity to the capsule. This ensures that the signal source is reproduced as close to resonance-free as possible. Sophisticated materials and advanced mechanics reduce unwanted vibrations, whilst care was also taken to achieve maximum suppression of feedback.
Developed and tested in Austrian Audio’s Vienna facility to truly meticulous standards, the OD505 is proudly manufactured using only the highest quality materials and techniques.
